TL/ED: Hamsterminator

Jin’s eyebrow twitched.

A chilling sensation stiffened every muscle in his body.

As his instincts grew wary of the opponent, the Light Pole awakened.

Pazzzik!

A streak of violet lightning crackled around Jin’s face.

It looked as if the lightni‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ng had a will of its own, baring its fangs toward the enemy.

Naturally, Jin’s eyes fo‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌llowed it.

“......”

It was the gaze of a beast.

A stare that stood on a different level from the riffraff who had merely replaced their heads with those of animals. The real deal, a true predator.

Jin didn’t know where the difference came from.

He only clenched his fist tightly.

The reason he didn’t charge in right away was because of Fenrir’s voice coming from beside him.

“Taha...!”

The bridge of his nose, exposed above the goblin mask, twisted in a deep scowl.

His expression, his tone - it didn’t feel like a first encounter.

As expected, the man responded.

"I wondered who it was. So it was you."

Then came a cold, emotionless word.

“Traitor.”

At the same time, Jin glanced sideways at Fenrir.

Not because of the word “traitor” but because the crackling sound and the growing presence naturally drew his gaze.

In that moment, Fenrir, having completed his Beast Transformation, reached up with his massive hand and pulled down his loosened mask.

Grrrrr-

From his elongated snout came the low growl unique to predators.

The werewolf, cracking his neck sharply to either side, opened his mouth.

“Isn’t calling me a traitor a bit much? I just left because I hated all that fucking buddy-buddy bullshit.”

Buddy-buddy bullshit.

It was a blatant insult aimed at TB, which had now grown into a formidable new warlord faction.

But the response that came was surprisingly plain.

“Do not reject the voice within. Fenrir.”

The man, Taha, spoke as he took a step forward.

As he reached back with his arm, he grasped the handle of the massive hammer that had been resting on the ground, then added a few more words.

“That is the fate given to us.”

“Bullshit... Your beast disease’s acting up again.”

As Fenrir bared his sharp teeth, peeling back his crimson gums.

Jin quickly checked behind them.

There were three Resistance members frozen like prey at Taha’s sudden appearance.

Among them, Albus was clearly in the worst shape. His face had gone deathly pale, and all the blood seemed to have pooled in his abdomen, soaking through the bandages so thoroughly that Den’s back, pressed against him, was now stained red as well.

From the way he was drenched in cold sweat, it was clear that if things continued like this, he was on the verge of going into shock from blood loss.

Jin made his decision.

“Run!”

At his shout, Ossia and Den snapped out of it and immediately turned around.

As Taha’s gaze shifted to their retreating backs.

Jin grabbed Fenrir’s shoulder and yanked him back.

“Let’s get out of here for now!”

“...What?”

“We’ve got to save the client!”

It wasn’t like Jin hadn’t considered fighting.

He’d even prepared himself to charge in.

But after thinking it through carefully, he realized this wasn’t it.

If they tried to hold their ground and fight here, not only would Albus be in danger, but the escape route they had barely opened up would quickly close again.

Then everything they had struggled for so far would go up in smoke.

He couldn’t let that happen.

So Jin turned his back and ran.

Someone once said a wound on the back was a swordsman’s disgrace.

But Jin wasn’t a swordsman.

So he felt no shame!

If baring his back meant he could save lives, then he’d do it again and again.

And so what if he got injured? It would heal quickly and not even leave a scar.

But it seemed the werewolf with the Twin Dragon Sword on his hip didn’t feel the same way.

"Damn it! If this is how it's going to be, why did I even transform?!"

“Did I tell you to do it? Just run!”

That’s when it happened.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The sound of footsteps pounded behind them, growing closer as if smashing the ground.

Then finally- BOOM!!

A massive explosion echoed.

A giant shadow soared through the sky, hurling something toward the two who were in full sprint.

Whirrr‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌r‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌rrrr!!

The spinning sound of something slicing through the air rushed toward them in an instant.

A spine-chilling sensation shot down their backs.

In the next moment, Fenrir threw his body wide to the side, and Jin Blinked a short distance forward.

Immediately after, the ground exploded behind them.

Thrown off balance for a moment, Jin tilted his head back and looked behind him.

Through the cloud of shattered concrete, he could see the hammer embedded in the ground.

Jin’s eyes widened instinctively.

What the hell. He threw that thing?

That hunk of iron looked like it weighed several hundred kilograms at the very least.

Its crude form, completely fused with the handle, was a throwback to a bygone era of melee weapons.

Jumping into the air with that thing and then hurling it to the ground, Jin himself couldn’t even manage that now.

The moment he grasped that his opponent’s strength clearly surpassed his own, the silver-haired man dropped from the sky and stretched his arm backward.

Then, grabbing the hammer’s handle, he swung his arm wide.

The hammer head shot up from the ground like a missile, tracing a three-meter arc.

Whoooong!

Jin reflexively rolled his body away from the hammer flying at him, blocking his sight.

An invincible evasive technique often described in martial arts novels as “lazy donkey roll”.

As long as you could swallow your pride, it should be good enough to dodge most attacks...

But maybe because the laws of this world were different, it didn’t work here.

Kwaaang!!

He avoided a direct hit, but got caught in the shockwave that erupted at close range, sending his body flying.

At the same time, concrete debris shot toward him like arrows.

His vision was filled with rubble.

In this state, he couldn’t use Blink.

Because he couldn’t pinpoint a target coordinate.

In a rush, Jin crossed both arms in front of him.

Fist-sized fragments smashed against them with a rapid crackling sound as he stretched his legs back.

His sole hit something.

There was no time to judge whether it was the ground, a wall, or what, he just had to stop his body first.

Then he heard the wind slicing by his ears again.

Jin instinctively ducked his upper body.

Whooong!!

A massive hunk of metal narrowly grazed the top of his head as he lowered himself so much that his palms touched the ground, then he slammed his foot down.

Pazzzzik!!

His body, wrapped in Tempest, crashed directly into Taha.

The effect was immediate.

Taha’s brows furrowed, and he staggered backward.

But Jin couldn’t follow up.

The recoil from the collision was worse than expected.

It felt like he’d slammed into a lump of steel at full speed.

His whole body rang with a sharp zing, and for a moment, he couldn’t move a muscle.

If this were a game, it’d be the moment you get stunned.

Before the massive hammer could come crashing down on his head, someone yanked his collar hard.

Choking on his breath, Jin winced and turned his head.

"...Were you a Zahad?!"

Fenrir shouted in surprise.

But Jin couldn’t answer.

Understandable, since he was getting choked.

“Kegh! You bastard...!”

As the werewolf, standing at 210cm, sprinted with him in tow, Jin’s heels scraped along the ground. Just as the strength returned to his legs, he flailed them around.

Then, kicking off the ground on his own, he twisted his body and slapped away the hand gripping his collar.

“What’s the big idea...pulling me...like that...you fucker!”

He coughed dryly between the broken phrases.

Naturally, Fenrir didn’t care.

“So I should’ve just watched your skull get crushed?!”

Fair enough.

Jin quickly accepted that and, spotting Ossia and Den rounding a corner in the distance, shouted:

“What the hell makes that guy so strong?! Other Beastkin weren’t like that!”

“That’s because Taha...! He’s a Beastkin who completed Shedding!”

“Shedd... what?”

“Fuck, he’s coming!!”

Fenrir shouted at the top of his lungs.

At the same time, a breeze brushed past over their shoulders.

Whirrrrrrik!!

Neither Jin nor Fenrir needed to say a word, they split left and right instantly.

The hammer that flew between them landed at an angle on the ground.

With an ear-shattering boom, a shockwave erupted.

Fenrir dug his sword into the ground and held on.

Jin thought, to hell with it, turned his back to the blast.

Using the force of the shockwave pushing his back, he accelerated and drove his fist into Taha’s face as the man charged at him.

Kwachik!

Taha’s head tilted slightly back, but the predator’s gaze stayed locked on Jin.

Then-

Their fists grazed each other midair and struck each other’s faces.

A cross-counter.

Jin reeled back hard. It couldn’t quite compare to Kilgit’s Sonic Boom Punch, but Taha’s fist packed a wallop like being hit with a chunk of iron.

That’s when Fenrir leapt in, slashing his sword.

A sharp surprise attack.

A greatsword over one meter in length grazed Taha’s neck.

It clearly did, yet no blood flowed. Even though Jin could see with his own eyes that the skin had been cut.

“...What the hell did you do to your body?”

Fenrir asked, but Taha didn’t respond.

He simply pressed his hand against the wound and then pulled it away, and like a lie, the cut vanished.

Only then did he open his mouth.

“Come back now, Fenrir. I’ll give you a chance.”

“What?”

“We are chosen beings. Descendants of an ancient race reborn beyond the ages. You must hear it too, right? The voice of the wild.”

At that, Fenrir raised his sword.

“Don’t talk bullshit. We just took some damn serum. That ‘voice’ you talk about is just the fucking side effect of it.”

“There’s no reasoning with you.”

As Taha shook his head and stepped forward.

[Gravity]

A soft incantation came from somewhere, and Taha’s left knee suddenly buckled.

“......?”

He momentarily lost balance and stomped his right foot down hard, barely stopping himself from falling over.

Crack-crack-crack!

Cracks spread out beneath his feet, as if some invisible force was crushing him.

But he didn’t fall. Instead, he slowly began to lift his head.

At that moment, a strange voice rang in Jin and Fenrir’s ears.

“This way! I can’t hold him much longer!”

The end of the alley.

A man was waving urgently.

Behind him was a parked boxcar, and upon closer look, Ossia, Den, and Albus, who had escaped earlier, were leaning inside it.

There was no time to think.

Seeing the white fur beginning to sprout on Taha’s face, Jin and Fenrir immediately turned and sprinted toward the boxcar.

As the two of them climbed in, the man jumped into the driver’s seat and slammed on the accelerator.

Bwoooooom-!

Inside the speeding vehicle, Jin rubbed his stinging nose and asked toward the driver’s seat.

“Resistance?”

“......”

The man said nothing.

Why isn’t he answering?

Feeling something off, Jin reached toward his waist.

Click.

Suddenly, Ossia pressed a gun muzzle right against the headrest of the driver’s seat.

“...Who the hell are you?”

The man let out a short, dry laugh.

“Come on, I came to help and this is how you treat me?”

“Identify yourself.”

"Is that a threat? Are you going to pull the trigger?"

“You think I can’t?”

As the two went back and forth, Jin frowned.

What situation is this now?

He’d naturally assumed this guy was Resistance come to help, but apparently not.

Then why the hell did they get in this thing?

...Not that they could’ve helped it. Albus’s condition was beyond bad.

No, it was really bad.

He had lost consciousness and was convulsing in small spasms all over. Even to Jin, who knew nothing, it was clear his life was hanging by a thread.

Seeing this in the rearview mirror, the driver finally opened his mouth.

“Shouldn’t you save your friend first? If you blow my head off, do you have somewhere to go?"

"Not like we don't."

“A safe house?”

“......”

“Just a word of caution, you shouldn’t go there. TB’s already turned the place into a wasteland.”

What is this bastard?

Jin and Fenrir locked eyes, then turned back to the driver.

From how things were going, it seemed he was neither Resistance nor TB, yet he knew quite a lot for someone unaffiliated.

He even used magic, didn’t he? Yeah, Gravity.

A gravity spell often seen in novels and games.

Sensing the heavy suspicion directed at him through the rearview mirror, the man spoke again.

“Don’t be so on edge. You’ll know everything soon enough.”

With that, he refocused on driving.

A nighttime drive without even the headlights on continued.

Amid groaning and labored breathing, the group stared out at the city through the windows.

Gunshots in the distance.

Faint screams fading into the night.

And buildings that seemed to avert their eyes from it all, swallowed in darkness.

At some point, the boxcar began to slow down.

“Get out.”

The man said that and was the first to get out, followed one by one by the others.

Lastly, Den, who had been taking care of Albus, glanced around and muttered softly.

“...Bunker Hill?”

To Jin, it just looked like a desolate residential area.

No signs of life to be felt.

“This way.”

The man who had gone ahead gestured with a flick of his hand.

As the group began to walk,

Fenrir approached Jin’s side.

Having returned to his human form to ride in the boxcar, he leaned in close, his lower face once again covered by his mask, and spoke in a low voice.

“This could be a trap. If anything seems off, attack immediately.”

“Got it.”

And so, they arrived at the entrance of a building.

The man pressed the doorbell firmly.

Then, a voice came through the old intercom.

[As fate whispered to the warrior, ‘The storm is coming.’ To which the warrior replied.]

“Hey, cut the crap and open the door. We’ve got an injured person here.”

[......Then why even bother with a password.]

A moment later, with a buzzing sound, the door unlocked.

Following the man inside, the group was greeted by a narrow hallway.

Unlit and eerie, it felt almost ominous as they passed through, until finally they reached a living room where a stove was burning.

As they entered, the people warming themselves by the fire stood up.

One of them saw Albus and spoke.

“Bring the injured one over here.”

“I’ll be back.”

“No, Den. I’ll go with you.”

That left only Jin and Fenrir behind.

The man checked on the two of them, then turned to someone still sitting in front of the stove, chugging from a liquor bottle.

“Colonel, we’ve returned.”

“Yeah. Good work.”

A short reply. The elderly man, who’d just downed a long swig from the bottle, let out a hic and turned his head.

Jin, who had been scanning the situation until then, widened his eyes in shock.

Without thinking, he pointed and shouted.

“Hit-and-run bastard?!”
